People of Recast: Marthe Rottier

There’s something quietly rebellious about a finance leader who thrives on change.

“I never really chose Recast, it just happened. And I stayed.” That’s how Marthe Rottier tells her story. No dramatic career blueprint. No perfectly plotted master plan. Just curiosity, courage, and a willingness to step into a new opportunity.

An unexpected journey

Based in Maarssen, just outside Utrecht in the Netherlands, Marthe is Recast’s Senior Accounting Manager. Her career didn’t begin in finance. In fact, she studied linguistics. When her academic path no longer felt aligned with her interests, she made a bold pivot, stepping into whatever work would pay the bills. She worked at the post office. In a coffee shop. Took on small jobs. Then came a student role as an office manager at a tiny software company with just 10 people.

That’s where everything shifted. What began as office management quickly evolved into bookkeeping when the company needed someone to step in. Marthe had no formal finance background, no economics in high school, no accounting courses, so she started at the very bottom. Basic calculations. Evening studies. One diploma after another. Eventually, a post-HBO controller qualification. She built her finance career from scratch, brick by brick until she took a job with application management software provider Liquit.

And she didn’t stop there. Through acquisitions, restructurings, HR responsibilities, U.S. entities, due diligence processes, and long, Excel-filled days preparing for Recast’s acquisition of Liquit, Marthe leaned into complexity rather than away from it.

Motivated by change

While others may crave stability, Marthe is energized by movement. She thrives in environments where things aren’t fully built yet, where systems need cleaning up, processes need shaping, and decisions (good or bad) become steppingstones. She doesn’t just tolerate ambiguity; she sees possibility in it. As long as she enjoys the people she works with and the problems she’s solving, she’s all in.

“Beyond the numbers, what stands out about Marthe is she has a remarkable ability to successfully juggle many tasks for various entities, work cross-functionally, and deliver on time. She is detail oriented and methodical yet approachable and collaborative. She is a steady, dependable presence the team can rely on, and we are lucky she is part of our team and Recast.”

Erin Zambrano, Global Financial Controller

At Recast, Marthe’s mindset has made her an anchor during moments that could easily feel chaotic. When Recast acquired Liquit in 2023, Marthe spent her first months deep in spreadsheets, untangling and rebuilding financial foundations at speed. But beyond the numbers, she brings perspective, a reminder that growth is rarely linear and resilience is built through motion.

She also embodies something powerful about belonging, knowing that you don’t have to fit into a predefined identity box to matter. When asked how she identifies, she simply said, “Just me.” It’s a quiet but confident answer, one that reflects her grounded sense of self.

Experiencing culinary delights

Marthe loves eating. Not just eating, experiencing food. Her weekends and vacations often revolve around discovering small restaurants, exploring fine dining, and trying something unexpected. She may not love cooking, but she deeply appreciates the craft behind good food, and even more, sharing it with others. For Marthe, connection often happens around a table.

So, if you ever find yourself in the Netherlands, especially near Utrecht, consider this your sign to ask her for recommendations. Chances are, she already knows the hidden gem, the place with the perfect wine pairing, or the restaurant you didn’t know you needed to try.

Praise from fellow Recasters

“Marthe is one of those go-to people at Recast. She has an exceptional ability to take complex processes and turn them into something clear, practical, and tailored to the situation at hand.

What stands out most is her combination of structure and adaptability. She’s incredibly organized and methodical, yet remains flexible and adaptable to change. She has been, and continues to be, a key partner in my role: consistently collaborative, patient, and remarkably attentive to detail.

Beyond her operational impact, she is genuinely people-oriented, which makes working with her not only effective but truly enjoyable. She always makes sure to check in with me on a personal level. I feel grateful to work alongside her.”

– Virginia Mellano, People Ops Business Partner

“Working with Marthe is truly a pleasure. Marthe’s willingness to always lend a helping hand, answer any question with patience, and collaborate so seamlessly makes a real difference—not just to the work, but to the people around her. Marthe brings clarity to complexity and makes day-to-day work so much easier.

Beyond that, Marthe’s empathy, positivity, and sense of fun make her an incredible colleague to be around. Marthe is someone people can rely on, both professionally and personally, and that combination is rare. I’m really grateful to work alongside Marthe.”

Continued growth

What keeps Marthe at Recast is the same thing that has shaped her path: evolution. The company pivots. Teams grow. Structures shift. And Marthe moves with it, adjusting, improving, rebuilding where needed.

Marthe’s story is a beautiful reminder that meaningful careers are rarely straight lines. They are shaped by curiosity, sharpened by courage, and strengthened by the willingness to learn out loud, even when you’re starting from scratch. What began in linguistics evolved into finance leadership not because she had it all mapped out, but because she kept saying, “I’ll try this.”

Her journey proves that impact doesn’t require certainty at the beginning. Sometimes it grows because someone sees potential in you before you see it yourself. Sometimes it expands because you’re brave enough to study what you’ve never studied, step into rooms you weren’t trained for, and build expertise one deliberate step at a time.

And sometimes, belonging simply means having the space to be “just me.”

At Recast, Marthe has found that space and helped build it for others.

Facilitated by Carolin Castro and Muzzammil Hasan as part of the Diversity Council initiative, the “People of Recast” series celebrates the stories and achievements that make our Recasters extraordinary.
